Finding Answers & Support
We understand that starting counseling can bring many questions. Here you'll find clarity on our therapeutic process, logistics, and how we collaborate to support your child's emotional growth and resilience.
Counseling Support
How do I know if my child needs counseling?
If your child is experiencing persistent emotional regulation challenges, anxiety, school avoidance, or difficulties with peer relationships that impact their daily life, counseling can provide the evidence-based tools they need to build resilience and social confidence.
What does an evidence-based approach look like?
Our practice utilizes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) principles. We focus on practical, solution-focused strategies that help children understand their emotions and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
When do you facilitate sessions? Do you see clients after school or on weekends?
Yes. While availability afterschool is limited, I do offer sessions during these times when possible. Sessions can take place in your home, at school, or a neutral location, depending what works best for the client and family.
I also understand how busy the week can be with work, school, and other commitments. When appropriate, sessions can be offered virtually or by phone as well, providing additional flexibility for families and clients.
Logistics & Process
Intake Process
Start with a free 15-minute consultation. We follow this with a comprehensive intake session to build a tailored plan for your family.
Session Availability
Sessions are typically booked weekly or bi-weekly. We offer flexible afternoon and evening slots to accommodate school schedules.
Insurance & Payment
Coverage may be available through OAP funding and, depending on your plan, through extended health benefits.
Social and life skills training may be eligible under OAP flexible funding streams, including Childhood Budgets, Interim Funding, and AccessOAP.
As a Child and Youth Care Practitioner and OACYC member, some insurance providers may reimburse services, although coverage varies by plan. I provide itemized receipts with my professional credentials, OACYC membership information, and program details to support your submission.
Family & School Support
How are parents involved in the process?
We believe family support is crucial for long-term success. Parents are integrated through regular coaching sessions, progress updates, and practical at-home strategies to ensure consistency across environments.
Can you collaborate with my child's teacher?
Yes. With your consent, we collaborate directly with educators to provide classroom observations, individualized strategy planning, and behavioral implementation support within the school setting.
Do you offer school success coaching?
Absolutely. We specialize in executive functioning skills, helping students develop the organization, focus, and perseverance needed to thrive academically and socially in their school community.
